Announcing the New and Improved Coding Dojo Career Services Program

Our Career Services department is dedicated to supporting the overall success of a student’s career throughout their journey at Coding Dojo. We’re not only creating self-sufficient developers, we’re also shaping people to become the best version of themselves each and every day. Our mission is once you graduate from Coding Dojo, you’ll leave with confidence in your abilities as a developer, comprehensive knowledge of the industry, and be ready to pursue your dream career. 

That’s why we’re excited to announce our new Career Services Program. The revamped program replaces the Career Readiness Week that typically followed graduation, and is now intertwined with the entire bootcamp experience. Now, students will work with our Career Services team throughout the 14-week bootcamp to prepare for all aspects of their job search including job search strategies, personal marketing, interview skills, resume writing, LinkedIn profile creation, Github setup, networking, and more. 

Here’s how it works. 

When students enroll, they’ll get a welcome email with an overview of the Career Services activities and timelines. At this time, students can opt-in or opt-out of the Career Services Program. If they opt-in, they’ll receive a questionnaire so our Career Services staff can learn more about their background, goals, and desired career paths. 

Then, during the first two weeks of Python, students will be tasked with starting a Github repository, LinkedIn profile, and creating a resume. Once these are created, students will meet one-on-one with our Career Services Managers to review the materials, make improvements, and go over next steps. 

During the student’s second stack, they’ll start the research phase to better understand the job market, roles they want to apply for, and their personal strengths and weaknesses. They will also work with our Career Services Managers to evaluate their desired industries or job types, as well as start preparation to fit specific roles. 

During the third stack, students must finalize their resumes and LinkedIn/Github profiles so our Career Services team can do finishing touches and polishing. After graduation, students will apply to 10 jobs every week (the more, the merrier!) and will continue working with our Career Services team to do mock interviews, further resume touch-ups, and overall career guidance. During this timeframe, our Career Services team will also conduct outbound recruiting to help graduates increase their exposure and opportunities such as full-time positions, contract, contract to hire, apprenticeship, internship, and other leads.

This increased job application volume will help students get interview experience, as well as help them decide where they ultimately want to land. At any point throughout the duration of the new Career Services Program, students can schedule extra one-on-ones with our team for extra help.
